"Wagner is one who has suffered deeply - that is his distinction above other musicians. I admire Wagner wherever he puts himself into music." - pg. 664
Bon Iver secluded himself for a winter, after a supposedly devastating heartbreak. He recorded and released an album in which he let it all out. This song is one of the more literal and expressive ones, and he expresses his sorrow through the gradual intensification.
Nietzsche goes on to say that Wagner's music is not healthy, however. Bon Iver sheds his sorrow in this music, which Nitezche would be critical of, perhaps calling it overstimulating, an overindulgence of emotion.
This song also reminds me of the music torture week. The rampant repetition can definitely become torturous.
