(Plato) Life Ain't Fair by Dean Alexander

I chose the song "Life Ain't Fair" sung by Dean Alexander because he seems to go with what Plato is saying. In this song he talks about the many things that he has done bad in his life, but how, regardless of all these things, he has still managed to lead a good and fulfilling life. He specifically says that he has had a blessed life and it appears that he is talking to God, thanking him for being there throughout everything, although you get the feeling that he is trying to sing about a girl. The singer knows he hasn't done much right in his life and that he has to change and according to Plato, that means that there is a fundamental flaw in his being. This song is helping him make the metamorphosis that Plato was talking about with the realization that he has to become a better person. The singer, we can say, is unjust and happy, which is what Plato says is "a very serious error about mankind that writers of poetry make and should be stopped" (80). For this might influence others to do the same, hoping for a positive result or they may think that this kind of behavior is acceptable. This is the censorship that Plato wants.
